Starting your computer in safe mode is always a safe method. Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. If the virus you are battling is middle-of-the-road in severity, safe mode may be a way to temporarily disable it.
If you feel intimidated by the virus infection you are dealing with and need professional help, where ever you are in the US, we serve you better!
